'50 Blue' was the label that identified my family's laundry on Kibbutz Afikim in the northern part of Israel.

The kibbutz is a collective agricultural community. Many of these communities, based on work according to one's ability, and the reception of goods and services according one's needs, were established in Israel prior to statehood, when independent farming was not a practical alternative.

The kibbutz movement has changed almost to the point of non-recognition in the last twenty years. Today it is scarcely different from any other capitalist enterprise.

The events that shaped my young life are now faded memories. When I look back the years, It seems that I was raised in a fantasy. The unique individuals and the no longer exist way of living are my own invented mythology.
